These women protested against the oppression they or their community felt using the democratic ideal of freedom of speech. They each used different means of demonstrating their frustrations, such as posing for a photograph wrapped in a flag, or burning in front of the police station to protest how her family was was treated. They all demonstrated their outrage against various types of injustice through different means of protest.

Question 3: What does it mean to protest through literature or with cultural forms? How are these forms of performing democracy?

Protesting through literature and with cultural forms is using expression and speech to communicate an idea or an opinion or viewpoint. Democracy encourages freedom to express oneself in their own means and forms, including literature and cultural references.
